Brunei a pot of gold for LCCs
AIR access to Brunei will improve with a new Cebu Pacific service from Manila and additional frequency on AirAsia's flights from Kuala Lumpur.
Cebu Pacific will start twice-weekly flights between Manila and Bandar Seri Begawan on August 21, while AirAsia will increase its daily flights from Kuala Lumpur to twice daily from August 25.
The move by these low-cost carriers will boost the leisure, meetings and incentives markets, believes Anthony Chieng, managing director of Sunshine Borneo Tours and Travel. It would help companies save money on flights, enabling them to spend more on the ground, he added.
Leveraging on the improved air links from Malaysia and the Philippines, Chieng will do more marketing in these markets to promote leadership and teambuilding programmes in Brunei.
Fellow inbound operator in Brunei, Travelhub managing director, Adam Tan, said the destination needed more budget hotels to cater to the growing segment of budget travellers to Brunei.
