China, South Korea, Malaysia, Taiwan climb ICCA chart
CHINA, South Korea, Malaysia and Taiwan were the only Asia-Pacific countries that improved their rankings in the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) world rankings for international association meetings organised in 2009.
According to the results released on July 9, China moved to ninth position in 2009 from 11th spot for having hosted 22 more international association meetings. It organised 245 international meetings last year.
South Korea and Malaysia rose a notch to 15th and 31st spot respectively. Taiwan moved to 32nd spot from 35th in 2008.
The ICCA rankings were determined by the number of association meetings hosted by a country.
ICCA Asia-Pacific regional director Noor Ahmad Hamid said: "The rankings are important, as they show the strength of the destination to attract international association meetings to their shores. Those countries that have increased their number of international meetings...have a strategic plan in place in terms of national bidding and concerted efforts by industry players to attract international association meetings."
