India buyers set to dominate Thailand Travel Mart

INDIA will, for the first time, head the list of international buyers at the Thailand Travel Mart Plus Amazing Gateway to the Greater Mekong Sub-region (TTM Plus), in Bangkok from September 8 to 10.

From the 341 registered buyers from 49 countries, 70 are from India, followed by the US (26), the UK (24), Russia (22) and South Korea (16). There are also new buyers from Brazil, Mexico, the UAE, Turkey, Lithuania and Kazakhstan.

The event organiser, Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), had sought to ensure quality buyers by requiring them to pay a nominal registration fee of US$200. Domestic buyers will be charged US$50.

The buyers will meet 428 registered sellers from various tourism business categories such as hotels, tour operators, golf courses and airlines.

TAT governor, Suraphon Svetasreni, said: "This year's TTM Plus is very important for us because it comes as part of our recovery programme from the recent political unrest."

He added the event was also part of TAT's strategy to diversify the sources of visitor arrivals and expose Thailand and the GMS region to new buyers from countries and regions which could deliver promising results in the future.
