Indonesia improves border controls

Developed by Indonesia Directorate General of Immigration, the system would enable the country to monitor the traffic of travellers and provide information on venues visited.

Director General of Immigration Mohammad Indra said: "At the same time, the system will allow us to process travel documents quickly, taking only 36 seconds per person, eliminating the long queues at the airport, which the tourism sector has been complaining about."

The immigration office had received negative feedback on its slow service, especially at major airports during peak hours.

Meanwhile, the immigration office is hiring 200 new personnel to improve its services at major airports as well as its visa-on-board service on several Garuda Indonesia routes. The service is available on flights from Tokyo, Seoul and Amsterdam to Jakarta and from Tokyo and Sydney to Bali. Garuda plans to implement the service on Dubai and China flights.
