Indonesia introduces tax refund facility
TOURISTS making purchases exceeding five million rupiah (US$532) will be able to claim for tax refund from April 1.
Indonesia Digest reported that the facility would initially be available at the Soekarno-Hatta Airport in Jakarta and the Ngurah Rai Airport in Bali. Details on the amount of tax refund tourists can claim were not available at press time. Meanwhile, Yogyakarta governor, Sultan Hamengku Buwono X, is pressing for the inclusion of the city on the list of exit points offering tax refunds. "We are ready with both the personnel and the area in the airport. (Tax refunds for tourists) can be implemented immediately," said the Sultan. Already, 10 specialty shops most frequented by tourists in Yogyakarta have been designated by the city for tax-refund status. (Sources: Jakarta)
