Mixed trade reaction over AirAsia promotion
OUTBOUND agents in Malaysia are divided on how to capitalise on new business from upcoming AirAsia's five-day promotion to Bangkok.
Malaysian Harmony Tours and Travel CEO, Cooper Huang, was optimistic of being able to sell rooms and ground arrangements in Bangkok to travellers taking up AirAsia's promotion.
"Anything free would induce young people to try, even though this is a shaky period for Bangkok. Travellers who are more cautious would adopt a wait-and-see attitude."
On the other hand, M Ali, CEO of Paradise Travel and Tours, expected business to be slow as travellers were likely to book their hotels and sightseeing tours online.
Business, he said, would come in "drips and drabs" as only those consumers who are not tech-savvy or are too busy to compare rates online would use the services of a travel agent.
AirAsia declined to reveal how many free seats from Malaysia would be included in the promotion. (Sources: S Puvaneswary, Kuala Lumpur, TTG Asia)
