Reporting live from the Global Travel and Tourism Summit, Beijing All atwitter over mobile technology
MOBILE technology and social networking now present tremendous business opportunities for the tourism industry, according to delegates at the 10th Global Travel and Tourism Summit in Beijing.
Expedia president and CEO, Dara Khosrowshali, said an experiment by the company that urged its clients share their travel destinations via an ad on Facebook had attracted one billion posts in just a year and a half.
Khosrowshali said the use of mobile technology and social network presented incredible opportunity for the tourism industry.
Anthony Tyler, IATA chairman and Cathay Pacific CEO, however raised concerns over who would make money out of technology and who would own customers' "valuable" data. (Sources: Sirima Eamtako, Beijing, TTG Asia)
