Visa-free entry to Malaysia for transiting Indian subcontinent nationals
INBOUND agents welcome the government's move to allow transit visitors from India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Bangladesh to enter into the country without a visa from July 1 as it would further boost arrivals.
However, Tina Travel and Agencies managing director Adam Kamal felt the timing of the introduction of the visa-free transit facility misses out on opportunities to be gained from the Indian peak summer period, which comes to a close in early June.
Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said details of how the visa-free transit facility will work and its conditions will be announced soon.
The country is targeting an additional 8,000 to 10,000 transit tourists from the Indian sub-continent through this move. (Sources: S Puvaneswary, Kuala Lumpur, TTG Asia)
