VOA a boon for Myanmar
Close to 4,500 foreign visitors have been granted visa-on-arrival (VOA) in the first two months since May 1 when the system was launched at Yangon and Mandalay international airports.
He said: "This is a breakthrough for the industry. Although it is still at an early stage, (we think the VOA) will result in a tremendous increase in tourist arrivals in the near future."
Previously, visas must be arranged in advance before arrival; now it is issued within minutes.
It is also an improvement over the former arrangement that issued VOAs only to travellers booked on tours with a local travel agency.
