Kuang Si Waterfall

The fall is astunning cascade tumbling downfrom the jungle, feeding a series of falls and pools that make perfect swimming holes. Wat Xien Thong

Wat Xieng Thong, better known as the ‘Temple of the Golden City’, is arguably one of the oldest and most important monasteries in Laos, located on the banks of Mekong River.

Not only is a symbol of great historic importance, Wat Xieng Thong is also considered as an outstanding example of Buddhist art and architecture in LuangPrabang.This masterpiece features low sweeping double-tiered roof, an elaborate ‘Tree of life’ mosaic and beautifully carved walls decorated with figures and symbols in gold leaves. The details in decoration represent classic Lao style and depict life of people in the countryside.

The temple is renowned as the location for the coronation of Lao kings as well as an important gathering place for significant annual festivities.This is another reason why Wat Xieng Thong should be a must-see on the list of any travellers.

Royal Palace Museum

Built in 1904, the former Royal Palace is situated on the banks of the Mekong River, facing the sacred Mount Phousi. The construction features a blend of French Beaux Arts and traditional Lao style.

Walking along an avenue lined with palm trees on Sisavangvong road you’ll get to the main entrance, above which is the pediment containing a symbol of the three-headed elephant. This symbol is also represented on the flag of Laos, expressingthe country’s ancient name ‘Land of a Million Elephants’.

Going inside, you’ll find a collection of musical instruments, Khmer statues and silk screens, as well as some beautiful Art Deco frescoes depicting scenes from everyday life.At the center of the museum is the Throne Room beautifully decorated with glass mosaics on red walls.

In addition to the palace, there’re also some exhibits on the grounds outside the museum including a shelter where the Royal barges are stored, the former Royal theatre and a garage with the old cars used by the Royal family.
